You really don't notice it ,till you slow down and yup the bilge pump working is a good thing .

I usually plane the boat out and pull out the plug. Drains all the water out but will freak out your guests.

I noticed because I had the wife and kids onboard and my wife was like "doesn't this thing go any faster?" I had it pegged and we were barely moving I was more embarassed when I forgot to trim the motor up and dragged the skeg on the ramp. I've made a lot of mistakes early on, nothing life threatening thank goodness.
