And the fact that internet radio isn't quite ready for prime time yet. Not as much as Bubba thinks it is.

What, free streams for all to steal isn't the end-all of internet radio?

                  Well there is that too.

The limit for internet radio in general (Pandora, Slacker, Io, etc.) are two big things.

                  1) Royalties that are double what satellite pays.
                  2) Limits on data from the carriers (VZW and AT&T both limit to 2GB with their new plans).

Those royalty fees are such a fucking racket it's unbelievable.

that's what I was thinking too - the end user side of things still suck for the most part.

low 64 bit streams sounds like shit when it comes to sound quality compared to radio too to be honest.

1 isn't an issue for talk radio
2 is definitely an issue if you stream all your radio via 3G. You could only stream about 36.4 hours of Bubba's show via 3G in a month. Fortunately, lots of people use wifi for a bunch of that.

The RIAA is such a joke. You would think they would embrace the internet as a medium to promote music.

They seriously want us to go back to the brick and mortar CD business at about $21.99 a copy.

And they have no problem changing formats every 10-20 years, either, making you pay for your music multiple times. I should be able to download every goddamned mp3 file matching up to my vinyl collection, FOR FREE.

And #2 is why internet radio isn't going to be standard for a while. Until data caps rise and you can share between devices (smartphone, tablet, car radio, etc.), people are not going to pay for multiple plans. I refuse to get a 4G plan for my tablet for that reason.
