nope..have to tell them the defense they will use and all witnesses. Why it takes so long to bring shit to trial.

I knew that but it used to be defense didn't have to disclose shit.. Hence the term surprise witness... Guess you can't do that now

They can do it..but it has to be within the defense they are presenting..not a surprise subject..like now they are going to claim insanity 4 weeks in the trial.

Yes they do. just not in such specific terms as the prosecution.

No, the only exception is if there is an alibi, the sources of that alibi must be shared depending on the state.

No..they can't claim for instance, stand your ground..then turn around and bring in a witness saying the defendant is not capable of standing trial. They must disclose this to the prosecution. though it happens a lot, which results in mistrials.
