Bad thing about fair tax would be a bigger tax increase on small business than big business without exceptions or credits. Which would complicate a supposedly simple system.

I don't see how that would be..small business would be more responsible for collecting the taxes, as they have more end user customers. But their would be no business income tax.
If you were to buy the same amount of supplies as a larger business, or a business with a set supply chain (I.e. Mom and pop restaurant vs a franchise), if you buy the same amount of supplies the supplies will take a larger portion of your income than of the bigger business.

Yeah I see that point. And adding exemptions may make the system a bit more complicated, but would still be better than the 50% that pay ZERO right now. not to mention all the people that aren't even on the radar.
My fear is that this gov will ADD a value-add tax on top of what we already have.
You do know that 50% that pay nothing is because their withholding tax throughout a year thats deducted from each paycheck is more than their tax liability (what they owe)?
So when they file on tax day they don't owe anything and get a refund (due to a combination of tax credits, exceptions, and tax cuts).
According to that guidline I'm in that 50%.
The only time I've ever had to pay on tax day is when I was a contractor. I will never do contract work again, for other reasons.

Yeah, but there are a shitload that because of exemptions, exceptions, etc than end up getting back more than they paid in. This to me is wealth redistribution.
If people want to earn more money, then they should do something other than rely on the gov.
Like me wifes daughter for example. She hardly worked at all, yet got back $3500 or so because she pumped out kids. Not to mention all the fuckin money she gets just because she had kids. More gov handouts.
