I'll go on record right now - bootlegging of ANY radio show is NOT ending anytime soon... as long as you are BROADCASTING - SOMEONE will steal your shit..

it's been happening since tape cassetes - now did any of you guys make a big deal to EMI cause your naighbour had a dual tape cassete and copied the latest huey lewis and the news tape and you bought it?

sorry - just playing devils advocate... I agree as a paying subscriber you want it secured - but even if they DO secure it - someone will just record it with audacity and we're right back to square one.....

Yeah but the issue is now they are recording it with audacity... and are not even paying to record it.

If they secure the stream at least the guy has to pay to record it.

Even if someone subscribes takes the stream and rebroadcasts it live via shoutcast its still better that way in the end as at least RadioIo is not paying the bandwidth bill for all the free loaders.

There is no cheap secure off the shelf solution, but there are a number of providers out there such as Clipstream who can offer secure streaming.

The big issue there is they would need to use a special player to listen. So people listening on phones would need a special app to tune in.

Securing things up is not hard but will take some money, but not a lot of money.]

In checking around I did find one company (StreamGuys) that has been able to secure Icecast streams better. http://live.str3am.com:2500/

It can be done, but again its going to take SOME money to do it. So far all most all of Bubba's sites and RadioIO are using FREEWARE. If your in the business to make money you are going to need to spend some money.

I googled up StreamGuys too, and some hosting services. Clipstream offers ways to secure the stream, but doesn't deal with subscriptions. StreamGuys is a possibility.

It's a given that they have to spend money to make this right, and it's a strong possibility that an app will be required (or be better) to listen to the stream. These days that's not a huge deal.

I think it's going to take a few months for them to get their feet under them and make this right. That's ok with me, so long as they do that, and I think they will.

Bubba should have comedians roast him, that way there's no fear of reprisal from the staff. Hell maybe some listeners could submit jokes, some of them are some of the meanest motherfuckers around to him.

Anyone with a Mac and Audio Hijaak Pro can caption any audio they can listen to on their system, then do what they want with it. The issue isn't making the stream (and the archives) absolutely secure. That's impossible. The issue is that they are doing next to nothing to ensure that non-subscribers are prohibited from accessing Bubba 2 and the rest of the premium content on radioio.com. They need to put in at least some basic credential authentication, and not use easily predictable, static URLs to the pay content.

They'll get this done, eventually.
