Think about it - if there's a worldwide flood, the water level would rise to the point where freshwater and seawater would mix together. This would form the type of water found in an estuary. Only specialized types of aquatic life are suited to live in estuaries due to the salt content. Everything else would die.

Much less, a worldwide flood would destroy established food chains, hence most creatures would die off due to a lack of food.
