Every year my insurance company tries to convince me to drug test my guys to save money..
I want to tell my agent that if I do that there will be no one including the owner available to preform the work..

The Pilots and Drivers of UPS are union. The warehouse folks are not.

Warehouse people are union too. My mother was a loader/preloader and warehouse clerk and she was union as was her friend, the evening warehouse shift.

Thats odd, I had a interview a few years back and NOTHING was mentioned about a union.

I don't know that that's odd. Mys son works for Penske as a truck mechanic. They didn't mention anything about union until AFTER he started. Then said it is NOT mandatory to join the union, but STRONGLY recommended. This was his supervisor though, not the person he interviewed with.

It also varies state to state. For instance when I worked for a major electronics distributor, in some states the warehouse workers were union, like NJ, in others like Tx they were not.

It's not a forced membership. You join if you want to, I think they still get their cut because they still work on your behalf.

I declined the job offer so I never heard anything about it but I pretty much got the UPS life history prior to so I was surprised I didn't hear anything about it.

True, but in most union places, if you don't join, you are looked at as a problem child that may cause issues with their benefits. You know how that system works.

Somewhat, I mean my mother knew a guy who got through that by telling them he was only doing it while in college and wasn't going to be there forever. He hung out with them but he just didn't want to be placed into union politics etc.

Did his 4 years, got out and is still friends with them.
