It's funny. YEARS ago, there was this shareware darts program on the interwebs written by this guy in the Army on his free time. I loved this thing, was way ahead of it's time and worked REALLY well with those clip-on mice you used on laptops.
In the instructions.txt file, there was a little blurb about it being shareware, and if you like it to send in $10 to his Army mail address. The free version was 100% functional, and no new content was promised to anyone who contributed.
I sent him the money, along with a little note thanking him for his way-cool program. I included my email address.
He got back to me a week later, was all excited about getting the check for $10. Apparently I was the first and only person to send him money. He asked if he could just keep my check and not cash it. I told him, sure thing!
He never did cash that check.
