  • Howard Stern's company sues Sirius XM

Howard Stern's production company and manager are suing SiriusXM Radio ... claiming Howard was bilked out of stock awards SiriusXM promised him.
According to the suit, filed in New York and obtained by TMZ, Sirius courted Howard to come there in the first place by promising him a share "in any success that the company achieved." But the suit claims, once Sirius conquered its chief competitor -- XM -- and acquired more than 20 million subscribers, it decided on its own Howard had been paid enough.

Stern alleges the subscriber estimates on which his stock bonuses were to be based ranged from 3.7 million in 2006 to 12.1 million in 2010. According to Stern, he actually blew those estimates out of the water and Sirius today has a subscriber base of more than 20 million subscribers.

I guess I'm not surprised. There's a lot of marbles on the table, and Howard believes they're mostly his, because without him coming over, he believes XM would have run the table and Sirius would be gone.

As much as we all poke fun at Stern's marble hoarding, if it was in the contract, Sirius should live up to the deal.

True enough. I guess the question is whether or not it was in the contract, or just part of the "understanding" between Stern and Sirius. He's lost out on stuff like this in the past.

As far as I'm concerned, I really don't care. I'm almost totally disinterested in Howard's show anymore. I actually carry Sirius now because I'm paid up through October of this year and I really like Scotty Ferrall. I listen to Bubber's FM show in the morning now until I get to work. Generally, even the FM show is much more interesting (commercials aside).

once my sub has run out I think I'm done with sirius.... I'll miss stern but the audio quality, even through the actual radio units - is just fucking brutal...

now that stereos are coming with usb (even my alarm clock has a usb slot and ipod dock...) the satellite companies need to make a decision - continue to carry 200+ stations? or cut it back to 100 or under and up the actual bandwidth (quality) of the signal, if they wanna compete in the new audio market.

FM sounds better then sirius so......... they need some fucking incentives cause they've fired or eliminated most of their old drawing power

I hear 'ya, SJ. I'll probably bail on it too by then, unless they beg me to stay with one of those ridiculous deals. And then, I'd only do it for Ferrall.

Speaking of sound quality, listening to the "Barbequed" channel on radioio.com. 192 kbps really does the trick!

that has it's drawback too with streaming.... I have shitty nets and cannot handle that much to stream that size of a file... it's slowly becoming less and less of an issue - but at the same time, filesizes keep growing as does bandwidth...

Maybe we'll finally get a confirmation as to whether or not Bubba and Ferrall were paid out of the regular 101 budget, or a separate budget.

one one side of the coin i say if he is owed it pay the man
on the other side if he could say fine, dont pay me but lets pay some radio talent to come here and make what stocks / shares i have worth something
