            Something isn't right...I've done a lot of 1099 work. sounds like she didn't have him sign an independent contractor contract.

                    Probably. I have no idea, I've never been a 1099 before, but the guy said "I can't get a paycheck because I get S.S." So shouldn't he have balked at the first notice he would be getting a 1099, which is in essence a paycheck or at least proof of employment? Something is missing here for sure

                          Yep, which means it would be reported to IRS and he got pissed off. Still doesn't make it right, but hey, everyone cuts their own deal.

                                Yep. At least if she paid him by check there would be documentation. Giving the guy an envelope with cash in it ain't gonna get you very far in court unfortunately.
