While Sirius XM Radio announced its second quarter 2010 financial and operating results today, CEO Mel Karmazin said he hopes to have an announcement about the fate of Howard Stern, whose contract is up at the end of this year, before the company's next earnings conference call, which is in about three months.

"We hope that prior to the third-quarter earnings conference call we can have an announcement on what is going on with Howard," Karmazin said at the end of this morning's second-quarter call, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

His comments suggested optimism that Stern will renew his relationship with Sirius. Some observers have predicted that Stern will stick around, but at a lower cost for Sirius, and possibly in exchange for less on-air work for Stern.
