Yeah, basically half assed shit and rushed to finish the drill process to make the well active. Instead of using driling mud while cementing in the well head and remove the drilling rig, they used seawater.

Because the water is so much lighter, it allowed methane to escape, which expanded on the way up. When it reached the top, ignition sources close to the drill rig got fire which caused a chain reaction of explosions.
