I figured he was gone from the show anyway, but if the rumors are true, this is a lot more serious than most of us had thought.

Lots of rumors and speculation, and very little in the way of concrete facts.

Although there's rumors that several medical workers have leaked some info. He allegedly drank bleach or something and was found with stab wounds and it's rumored it was called in as a suicide attempt and apparently Colin Quinn was the person that found him.

Again, all rumors at this point.

It looks like some Artie rep made an official statement to them. It's kind of odd how few news sources have picked this up if you ask me.

Funny how with something like this you still get the "it's all a fake radio bit" dipshits.

                    I know - so bizarre -

do you stab yourself first and then drink bleach?

Weird thing is, hours before that story broke, someone posted it on SFN claiming he heard it from a medical worker, mentioning the bleach and stab wounds. The thread was removed as would be expected, under the assumption it was fake, but it's freaky in retrospect.

I wonder if this will finally be it for Artie? Anyone got any back story on why he was MIA from the Stern show of late?

Probably his depression again, and Howard said that it was his story to tell. Most people assumed he was going to rehab, but that was clearly not the case. A lot of people had already assumed he wouldn't be in Monday, and then this happened.

Yeah, other then hearing rumors he might not be returning to Stern monday - I haven't heard anything as to why he isn't returning - though I guess this turn of events means he won't be returning for a while now even if it is to say he's leaving the show

the skeptical in me says that this could be a stunt to ease the transition of leaving the show - you can't blame a guy for leaving if he's hospitilized..

I really hope that's not true - but the alternative is just as gruesome really

                              This just in from Orbitcast:

It's been confirmed that Artie Lange, the stout sidekick on The Howard Stern Show, has been hospitalized for yet-unknown reasons.

As first reported by TMZ, Artie Lange was rushed to a local New Jersey hospital on Saturday, January 2nd for undisclosed reasons.

"We can confirm that Artie is in the hospital," a representative for Lange said. "Artie has chosen to keep all information on this matter between him and his doctor. There will be no further comment."

Lange hasn't appeared on the Stern Show since December 9th (the last show before breaking for the holidays was December 17th).

Artie Lange has also canceled multiple stand-up gigs including a New Year's Eve gig at the Borgata, according to his website. Additionally, all dates through February have also been canceled.

Lange has had a history of substance abuse issues, including when he checked himself into a rehab clinic in late 2008. In 2009, Lange was busted for DUI (prescription sleeping pills) after crashing his car into Toms River in July.

The Howard Stern Show is scheduled to return live on Monday, January 4th.
