  • Jury rejects Schnitt's lawsuit against radio rival Bubba

TAMPA (FOX 13) - It didn't take jurors long to rule that Bubba 'The Love Sponge' Clem was within his First Amendment rights when he engaged in what his attorneys called a "radio war" with rival show host Todd 'MJ' Schnitt.

After only three hours of deliberations, the jury rejected claims of defamation by MJ's attorneys. It was a quick end to a lawsuit that took years to come to trial and over two weeks to play out in court.

TAMPA, Florida - A jury has sided with Bubba the Love Sponge Clem in the defamation trial between two Tampa-based radio shock jocks.

Jurors found comments Clem made on air about his radio rival Todd "MJ" Schnitt and Schnitt's wife Michelle did not defame them and no financial damages were awarded.

I'll keep collecting stories about the verdict in here.

TAMPA - A Tampa jury ruled Wednesday that shock jock Todd "MJ" Schnitt and his wife were not defamed by Bubba the Love Sponge Clem who made harsh on-air comments about the couple over a period of time.

Jurors came to their decision after nearly 3 hours of deliberation.

Alternate juror Alana Wilshire, who was released early, had little sympathy for the plaintiffs. "I don't think they were able to prove defamation, in my opinion," she said. "I think anybody that runs and cries and hides in their house because someone called them a name kind of needs to grow up, you know, develop a thicker skin."
