    • Hey this seems kinda important

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Long before his radio fight with Bubba the Love Sponge Clem, Todd "MJ" Schnitt sparred over the airwaves with a rival radio personality in Virginia Beach.

In 1988, MJ worked nights at WNVZ-FM Z104 while Roy Jaynes, known on the air as "D.B. Cooper," worked nearby at WGH-FM 97-Star.

Eventually MJ filed a $3 million slander suit, claiming Jaynes called him names on the air like a "little homosexual Jew boy."

But when 10 News talked to Jaynes on Tuesday, he denied ever saying that, but he did recall his radio war with MJ.

"In my situation he fired all the first shots... and then when we started firing back and getting the best of the situation, the next thing we know we're in court," Jaynes said from the radio station he now owns in Georgia.

According to newspaper reports, MJ had worked at 97-Star before he moved over to Z104. Jaynes was MJ's replacement.

Reports say MJ attacked Jaynes on the air by saying his rival was balding and losing his teeth. MJ also reportedly told listeners to send money to the "D.B. Cooper Toupee Fund."

On Tuesday, Jaynes said he was unaware of MJ's latest civil suit but when informed, said he wasn't surprised.

"That's what he does. He has a history of that. He comes from a very wealthy family, his daddy has always back him and pulled him out of his (jams)."

"He'll get on the air and he'll down someone and (belittle) them and then when the shots are fired, back he goes: 'Oh poor Todd Schnitt.'"

Jaynes went on to say he doesn't believe MJ has changed much over the past two decades.

"In my opinion, he's just a little spoiled little boy that hasn't grown up yet."

According to The Daily Press, after eight days of testimony a jury in 1990 awarded MJ $310,000 in his suit against Jaynes, Susquehanna Radio Corp and two others.

A check of court records Tuesday simply marked the case as settled.

When 10 News*reached out to*MJ for comment*his legal team*pointed out that Bubba has been sued before over comments he's made on air.

In one case, the St. Petersburg Times reports that Bubba settled a suit filed against him by a Tampa Tribune reporter and his wife who contended Bubba ridiculed her on the air about the death of one of their daughters in an auto collision.

In another case a Florida State Trooper brought a defamation lawsuit against Bubba accusing*the shock jock*of calling him incompetent, hard-of-hearing and sight-impaired during one of his shows.

      • The defense should've jumped on that. Not sure the judge would allow it though.
