Up to about 15TB total across a box of drives. Basically if I get my daughter a movie, I rip it, put it on my home network. She can watch it via Plex Media Center on her PC or on her Tablet. Same with my mother and her TV shows/movies.

If I buy a physical disc game I make an .iso of it and put any patches/mods in a folder with the .iso.

That way when the zombie apocalypse hits, you'll come to me for books and movies and games!

I have a massive DVD and Blu Ray collection. Perhaps I should start backing up the more important films.

                  • I just lost so much stuff I had as a kid. Old games books and movies that it has made me want to preserve all this media for my daughter. I even got cart dumpers for consoles so I could make images of my games. That way my daughter can play the original super mario bros. even if it has to be with a 360 gamepad on a computer.

edit: Forgot to mention specifically that I also bin up books so they won't get ruined by the elements, got a nice collection of "important" books, then some of my personal favorites.

Wow, I never even thought to back all of my NES, SNES, Genesis and Game Boy carts up. How the hell do I even do that? I have probably close to 600 games.

                          • Well I bought some cart dumpers from a local guy that makes them, but basically you take a card reader or device of that type and rig it up to read that port type, taking the connector from the GBA or whatever system. There are utilities and cart dumpers online for this process but it might be easier to just download the games that you want backups of, as most people have already done the job for you.

                            edit: that is rough ch3!

You make a great point. It just amazes me how these old cartridges hold up after 20+ years. Probably why I haven't moved into the XBox 360 / Playstation 3 era of gaming.
