Basically the Model 3 will be literally half the car the Model S is. It should be ready sometime in 2017, but it's all contingent on Tesla getting the "Gigafactory" online and producing batteries.

Maybe it is time for him to just wrap it up and ride off into the sunset on his track grader once and for all.

Yeah, but 35K is still pretty hefty. Depending on your down payment, your monthly payment could still be between $500-$600. Where you save is no gas and practically no maintenance.
