And they also have China as a defender for any real action that would matter. China doesn't want them free for the fear of a major influx of Koreans to China. And also the flow of info of what Chinese have really allowed and know happens there, always denied by China.

If the Kim's truly wanted to destroy South Korea the easiest way to do it would be to just have the senior leadership disappear one day. The ensuing humanitarian crisis in the north would economically destroy the south.
East Germany 2 or 3 decades behind the West when they were reunited. Over the following 20 years almost $3trillion were transferred from the West to the East to bring the former East Germany up to speed. Imagine trying to make up almost a century of difference. South Korea would be ruined |
