I managed to get on here after the announcement and saw what's up. Gonna backread the thread a bit and see what you guys think and then make a long winded post no one will read.

OK, first thing's first, as I said in the past I don't entirely hate the idea. Shannon and Bubba have great chemistry. I'm having a hard time catching all of both shows lately anyway, I wouldn't mind a Burke show shrunk by an hour since there's plenty of filler like Jack Cates and full songs for some inexplicable reason.

However two hours is fucking pushing it. And watch Bubba bail on the IO show entirely because of this. I was thinking this morning it was going to be an intern or someone not all that experienced in radio and Burke was, in my mind, the best case scenario. I think he needs someone in there that he respects as a peer. And Bubba doesn't respect a lot of people like that in radio. You can't promote a Chaz or Woodsman because they'd be treated just like 25 was. Hell he almost chased off Tara. Bubba needs to sit down and take a good hard luck at what direction things are headed in.

Bubba has this idea that he'll pass the torch and his show down to his co-workers. This is not how this shit works. The Bubba the Love Sponge show is not the Bubba the Love Sponge show without Bubba. The Bubba the Love Sponge show starring Spice or 25 is not the Bubba the Love Sponge show. That's why they left to do their own thing. The Bubba the Love Sponge show starring Brent is not the Bubba the Love Sponge show. Same with Tara, Manson, Hurricane, Woodsman, PBR or anyone still left in that increasingly empty building. People don't want the fact Bubba gave them a chance constantly being held over their heads.

Bubba needs to get the idea out of his head that he can sit on his ass and collect a paycheck for the use of his name, which comes with increasingly diminishing returns, and let others do the heavy lifting. Go in there and give your show your all or move the fuck on. You don't have many chances left to keep your dwindling fanbase around. Getting Shannon is a novelty that will wear off fast. People aren't going to listen in droves to a bunch of old material getting replayed, hell they're bailing when that happens with your show now.

On the other hand, I'm happy for Shannon, and hope this is a big boost both monetarily and for his career post Bubba. If this is what he's happy with that's great. I've been hard on his show at times but I think he's a great talent and wish him all the best. I'll miss the current SBS but we're actually getting more Shannon. Maybe he'll be the perfect antidote to the TMZ, celebrity news, morning zoo bullshit that's been creeping into BTLS show. He's a great talent with a great rapport with Bubba.

However if Shannon is the one Bubba "passes the torch" to, Bubba needs to realize it'll be using his own name and own brand that he moves forward with (hopefully) and not Bubba's. And Shannon is not a much younger guy, maybe Bubba realizes he fucked up and this is why he's changing his approach to the BMS guys, but they're more than capable of handling themselves. He needs to not focus on passing the torch but being happy people can succeed without him, something he seems to have a hard time doing.

I do hope people give this a chance to pan out but most things Bubba has tried lately have either failed, or caused longtime fans to tune out. Bubba needs to eat a slice of humble pie and reassess how he runs his business and whether or not his heart is still in radio.

Another thing I think Bubba needs to do, bring Rick on his show. Rick is great on air and behind the scenes he can be a huge help, maybe take a bit of the burden off Tara and Hurricane.

He's done a lot for the IO hosts and listeners and I hope he isn't left twisting in the wind. Give him a raise, make him PD, whatever. Not necessarily have him on the BTLS show. It's just that he's one of the last great behind the scenes/on air assets left at that compound.

That's more of what I'm getting at. Bubba needs to value Rick a hell of a lot more than he does now.
