Yup. Simply because he asked Lucas for it. Some of the Expanded Universe material gave him a canon reason for it. One of the games had an orange saber and I think it looked good.

And even if none of that was the case. Disney own it now, they can do whatever the hell they want.

Rumors have him, and I'll put it in spoiler tags in case it's true, [splr]being a recruit that has his TIE Fighter shot down, and he potentially deserts the Empire when he sees them torching a village. In the trailer, you see him running from scavengers looking to junk his ship for parts when Daisy Ridley's character shows up to save his ass.[/splr]

Also, as a geek, I love the fact Daisy Ridley has a name made of the names of two Nintendo characters.

And if anyone wants potential spoilers, go to MakingStarWars.net. They do a good job of separating good leads from bullshit.

One of the Lucasfilm people said that it was going to debut on iTunes Trailers at 10:15 a.m. EST. It actually came out a bit early which was cool. I was lucky enough to catch that bit of info so I wasn't obsessively refreshing at midnight.

Oh snap. A Splinter of the Mind's Eye reference. They teased even more of a romance between Luke and Leia in that book, which is creepy in hindsight.
