We’re talking about a place where you can watch dozens of “coaches” match wits and strategies. Where you can observe them line up the best players on their teams for a skills competition. Where you can see a mini-Jerry Rice run out routes, while life-sized Jerry is elsewhere, soaking in his induction experience. We’re talking football — electronic miniature style. “Just about every man who’s between 40 and 60 years old played this game as a kid, got tired of it and threw it in the closet,” said Lynn Schmidt, of Kansas City, director of the board for the Miniature Football Coaches Association. The difference is, the 75 or so “coaches” who will descend on Canton this week re-discovered their games. Some started playing again more than a decade ago, others only in the last couple of years. All over the country, grown men have formed miniature football leagues, facing off in their spare time and off work hours. Beginning Thursday, they’ll do battle and renew old friendships during the third annual MFCA convention. For the second year in a row, it’s at the Stearn Center, timed to coincide with the Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival and game.
