Thing is, with bigger games, like RPGs, a lot of that era relied on batteries inside. They can leak or die out, meaning you can't save anymore. This happened to my original copy of Dragon Warrior 1 for NES. This can ruin games as well. A tetris cart may hold up but anything with a battery backup is at risk.

You are correct about games that use batteries.

Good thing I have the tools and the know-how to open up a cartridge and replace the battery.

Ironic - my copy of Dragon Warrior was the first to have the battery go bad as well. Yet, my original copies of Final Fantasy, Crystalis and Zelda II all are still running on their first battery!

For me it was pure use. I played the fuck out of that game!

Yea, opening them up works, but this way I have two copies in case something happens. I consider myself a digital librarian of sorts. I just like having it all archived and organized for use.
