How To: Record Streaming Audio on Mac
Hey now - thought I would write up a little summary on how to record streaming audio on a new Mac computer (intel)
The problem with the new mac's is the soundcard and the way it blocks access to directly record what's passing through it. Here's a little work-around: 1. Download Soundflower for Mac. http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/ follow the instructions to install. 2. Once installed, open your preferences panel for the computer. Go to the "Sound" panel and choose the "output" tab. Then select Soundflower (2ch) as the output device. (At this point you should loose all sound coming from your built in or external speakers. 3. Open Garageband and go into it's own preference panel. Choose the Audio/Midi Tab and select Soundflower (2ch) as the INPUT source - The OUTPUT should be your external/internal speakers (your regular setting for listening to audio) 4. Close the Garageband pref panel and then open a new basic track in Garageband. Enable monitoring on the track to hear what is playing (youtube videos, your own itunes, any audio that would normally go to your speakers will now be picked up) 5. Play the audio you want and record it with garageband.... then export as an mp3 or filetype of your choice. 6. ?????? 7. Profit |
