yeah but what doesn't make sense is why a radio station would fork out that extra cash to get rid of automated programming?

well going from music to talk is a flip in my books..

if the people listening now want music - they aren't going to want talk in the morning... One station my way used to have a morning show that played songs as well and they got so many complaints they took the show right off the air and just played music.
