It's been like that since they took back the merch. It's kind of irritating. And all the Sirius years I never once complained about it since it never seemed overly excessive to me. Others disagreed though and I can see that.

I guess it's making up for the long lull in merch talk when Soundwave was running everything. And Bubba keeps alluding to a dire financial situation there despite Spice and 25 no longer getting paid. Who knows. Maybe that meeting he had with radio guys that supposedly went well will pay off.

I never minded the merch talk back in the Sirius days because there were four hours to fill. Now, we've only got thirty minutes at best on the Io show. By the time you take out commercials, old bits and the intro, there's not much left. Even merch talk on the two hour Io show I didn't really mind.
