A Monroe County man chewed off a piece of one man's ear and bit another man in the arm after smashing a beer mug over his head during a bar fight Friday night at a pub in Chestnuthill Township.
The fight broke out in Rizzo's Beer Pub on Route 209 in the Brodheadsville section of Chestnuthill Township. The three men, Justin J. Dawson, 27, Matthew R. Tomlin, 25, and Robert R. Slover, 42, all of Brodheadsville, are being charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, state police at Fern Ridge said.
State police said Dawson was the man who did the biting, but all three men were "highly intoxicated." According to a state police news release:
Dawson bit off a piece of Tomlin's ear, including the part with an earring, and spit it on the floor. Dawson also bit and assaulted Slover, who had a bruise over his eye from the beer mug smashed over his head and a serious bite wound in his arm.
When state police arrived around 8:20 p.m., troopers found a "highly intoxicated and uncooperative" Dawson in the parking lot. As they tried to talk to Dawson, he tried to start another altercation with Tomlin and Slover who approached the troopers despite being told several times to return to the bar, police said.
State police said they had to subdue Dawson with a stun gun because he resisted being placed under arrest for public drunkenness.
All three men were transported by ambulance to Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment. State police said they will be charged by summons.
The news release does not say what started the fight.
