Sirius XM to pass Music Royalty Fees to consumers
Satellite radio subscribers will be seeing their subscription price grow by nearly $2 a month thanks to increased music royalty rates, according to leaked internal company document.
Orbitcast has confirmed the U.S. music royalty rates will be passed along to subscribers with multiple sources familiar with the matter. According to the leaked information, the royalty cost increase will take effect on July 29, 2009. Sirius XM Radio Inc. does not appear to be characterizing this as a rate increase, as the subscription rates "officially" charged by the company will remain the same - but subscribers will end up paying more, nonetheless. http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/pr...consumers.html |

yep.. I think I'll order the funeral flowers now to save money.. lol
what a bunch of fools.. more music royalties, but still more shitty 60's and 70's music then cousin brucie's garage. It's no wonder they are going broke.. Old people are cheap - Old People don't spend big bucks for new music - they still have 45's and shit - if the price goes up - I can see a lot of them cancelling..and we all know the younger audience is not gonna be around once Howard and Bubba are gone.. So what will that leave Sirius to offer - a whack of really old music, like 3 modern music stations and... absolutely jack shit for Talk radio... Fire up the woodchipper, there's going to be some casualties |

Might as well increase the live internet fee again too. Fuckers are going to compare themselves to DTV soon.

I have a lifetime sub so I don't care.
They better be careful on raising any fees in this economy. I hope terrestrial radio gets stuck with the play/royalty fees too. |

The FM markets will just pass it on to the advertisers won't they? Who else can they bill, unless it's like Canadian Radio, where certain stations have a government subsidy.

Wow. Would you consider going back after the iPhone dock comes? Seems like they're finally making an effort to expand the mediums they could be heard on.

I've already sunk enough into installations and other gadgets to extend my listening. I've seen the dock.. it's sweet but too little too late. Hockey.. gone Howard... vacation every other week Bubba.... terrestrial And the music channel DJ's wont' shut the fuck up.. I don't want TMZ updates or bullshit trivia.. just play the music. And they censor the music lyrics, curse words and cut guitar solos/long versions short on some channels. I don't pay for HBO so I can get bleeped out shit so why do so for music. |

I get that about the DJ's too - I've been noticing that.. IMO none of these stations should even have a DJ... it says on the PDT who is on- I don't need some jabrone telling me when I can just look up... play the song, go right into the next on.. just like satellite radio on TV - my bell has no bullshit on their audio channels - just "your listening to galaxy" every hour or so... |
