From family involved in Katrina and the shit I've read on it, seems like it was much the opposite, milk.
Relatives of mine were on foot since they had no access to a car at the time (long story) and were told to go back into the city by National Guard troops who had blocked off one of the major roads leaving their area. Their only option was to go to that shithole stadium, and they were not in the minority at all.
Regardless though, what Katrina should teach people is, don't build cities below sea level, seriously.

That was after the fact. Most people that were in the dyer straights after Katrina, refused to evacuate up to a week ahead of time. No vehicles? Why were there rows and rows of school busses under water not used to evacuate people PRIOR to the storm? That is on the state and LOCAL gov of NO. Not the fuckin feds who show up AFTER the fact dude!

I think you are mistaken. the Superdome wasn't used until AFTER the storm the way I remember it. Regardless, my point is, it is up to local/state govs to run evacuations. THE National Guard was not on sight until after, except in staging areas. That is how I recall what happened.
Either way, again, my point is most of those people DID NOT take the warning to evacuate PRIOR too! Not when it is about to hit and then go..oh shit.!

Mistaken votes are massively different than how easily hackable the electronic voting machines are, this isn't exactly a conspiracy theory at this point. Fuck, even Bubba has played the clip of the computer programmer talking about Tom Feeney in florida.
These machines are so easy to break I could teach this forum how to do it in less than an hour with one of them on hand using only a laptop or tablet with wifi capabilities.

This has more to do with another thread where people are claiming Romney has already won, because he is invested in the company that provides these voting machines and they are being used to take Obama votes and give to Romney. Total fuckin nonsense, which is why I point out, I guess Romney orchestrated these mistakes against himself right? You don't hear the left media bitching about these mistakes right now do you? Not a word!

So close to an election anything and everything will get politicized. I agree some things should not be or at the very least, not be taken advantage of for political gain but it can't be stopped.

I'm specifically talking about a large number of people including my relatives who were told point blank by the National Guard before katrina even got near the coast that they could not leave, and were to report to the local shelter, which was the stadium, and was being set up before the storm. I'm trying to help you understand while there were many idiots who didn't leave, there were just as many trying BEFORE THE STORM who could not.
If you don't want to believe me that is fine, but again, I've heard this both from my relatives lips and other's.

So close to an election anything and everything will get politicized. I agree some things should not be or at the very least, not be taken advantage of for political gain but it can't be stopped.
Perfect example on a much smaller scale is Rhode Island and 38 Studios. RI gave 75 million for 38 studios to develop games. (you might know them for Kingdom of Amalur, their only real game.) It has been used by the campaigning politicians as a major issue, when it is just a drop in the bucket compared to the other monies wasted by that state.
Just today, RI got around to suing 38, for 75 million, basically wanting money back on their failed investment, claiming a large pile of horseshit for why they should get their money back. While the governor talks about how horrible this is for the state, he neglects that they loaned out the money to bring jobs to RI, high tech jobs in a field that RI is not known at all for.
When 38 needed more money to continue work on their next project, an MMO, RI turned them down, and 38 studios had to close, eliminating all those high tech jobs RI was so so proud of.
While neither side handled things perfectly, the state of RI using 38 studios, a dead company who's assets have already been mostly liquidated, as a campaign issue is another example of how these assholes don't really give any fucks about their constituents, they just want more money and power.

National Geographic news and a couple other sources actually had a story out for awhile yesterday saying there was a worry about the plague and other diseases popping up from all the rats making new nests throughout the city, as they feast on all the rotting garbage. Glad at least some of those bastards drowned, but they are really amazing swimmers apparently.

FEMA was and is a bullshit organization, tons of red tape and wasted money on programs buying up bodybags and other weird shit. Anything we can do to have states handle things more, and keep more of the money we send out to the government is a good thing, especially in a state like Florida. We have a huge need for disaster services in the wake of the many hurricanes we have, and we still do not have a very good system in place for getting aid out. FEMA hasn't done anything of merit to improve this post katrina, but has its fingers in tons more pies now, and takes a much larger chunk of money each year than it did prior to the storm.
edit: Clarification on the Bodybag thing, FEMA in '11 requested that upwards of 140 million bodybags be ready for use in disaster situations, and have begun purchasing large orders of them.
