I don't see how that would be..small business would be more responsible for collecting the taxes, as they have more end user customers. But their would be no business income tax.

My fear is that this gov will ADD a value-add tax on top of what we already have.

You do know that 50% that pay nothing is because their withholding tax throughout a year thats deducted from each paycheck is more than their tax liability (what they owe)?
So when they file on tax day they don't owe anything and get a refund (due to a combination of tax credits, exceptions, and tax cuts).
According to that guidline I'm in that 50%.

You do know that 50% that pay nothing is because their withholding tax throughout a year thats deducted from each paycheck is more than their tax liability (what they owe)?
So when they file on tax day they don't owe anything and get a refund (due to a combination of tax credits, exceptions, and tax cuts).
According to that guidline I'm in that 50%.

Yeah, but there are a shitload that because of exemptions, exceptions, etc than end up getting back more than they paid in. This to me is wealth redistribution.

If people want to earn more money, then they should do something other than rely on the gov.

Like me wifes daughter for example. She hardly worked at all, yet got back $3500 or so because she pumped out kids. Not to mention all the fuckin money she gets just because she had kids. More gov handouts.

No because you paid the amount you owed and more over the year. Youre only getting that more back, they still got what you owed out of you.
Now exceptions and credits can take what you owe to 0 but you still paid taxes over the year so you'll get more back.

As for the progressive tax brackets:
The effective tax rate for the top 1% of income earners is 15%.

I don;t have an issue with that. But to say if you make $40k a yr you pay 12 % but as soon as you make $50k you pay 15%. That is bullshit. not that those are the actual numbers, but you get it.

Correct. The % of people who really pay no taxes at all is close to 25-30%. Mostly because elderly don't pay taxes on social security benefits.
