View Full Version : Radio IO/Bubba Fantasy Draft
So I had a thought the other day...
after noticing how everyone, including myself, loves to be a backseat programmer, I thought I would start a thread for us to fantasy program the Bubba Channels on RadioIO...
So who would you put on Bubba's Channel?
What Time slots do you want filled?
Start another channel just for replays?

i know ive already talked about this but i would really like to see a "bubba trae" channel...capt. thunder, diacos, manson, spiz' happy hour, all of it...put on a rotator, start with whatever airs at night and replay it during the day..i see that blind lawrence goes on this site, does he have any juice on the show to mention this?

have you emailed the idea to spice sabian?
Talent wise my top fantasy picks would be:
-Ron and Fez - especially if they could pay East Side Dave enough to reunite with the show. There's been talk for a while of O&A possibly going their separate ways and I wouldn't expect 202 to go on without them.
-Phil Hendrie (might be difficult due to current contractual obligations)
-Lynn Samuels who just got screwed over by Sirius XM. She's funny as hell. I know CM agrees. I know she's a political talker but her no nonsense style would appeal to Bubba. She wouldn't be good fit on Bubba's channels though, so she'd probably be better off on a spinoff channel.
-Kevin Smith expressed an interest in a radioIO show and that would be huge.
I'd like a Bubba Three as well, that way we could possibly get a daily afternoon show in, as well as replays of other shows that don't get as many replays.

Another good political guy I would love to see on IO is Andrew Wilkow. I think a debate show with him and Brent would be mind blowing both are super smart and have a ton of facts to back up there arguments/points of view
Here's how I would do it:
Bubba 1 - FM Live in the morning, FM replays the rest of the day
bubba 2 - Uncensored IO Show, debriefing, afternoon drive would be kevin smith or Jay Thomas with Shuli, Ron and Fez can have a slot from 6-8 before the 8pm regular shows that are on now... but I would also add another block of shows to take the channel to midnight. Phil Hendrie would be perfect 10-12pm...
oh and I would add bubba 3 and put in on a steady rotation kinda like howard 101, so you knew you could tune in at ___ and hear yesterdays ___ show

Bubba has spoken highly of Andrew many times.
Ferrall would feel at home at Radioio, he even said in january that he's disgusted with the way Sirius has handled him. Hell I'd even put Jim Rome on, the clones going uncensored, Rome's audience is very much like the Bubba Army, very cult like.
As for Phil Hendrie on Radioio, I think a majoirty of the audience would be in on the joke, however, Phil is a great monologist.

1) Scott Ferrall. He would THRIVE on radioio.com and almost CERTAINLY would be treated better than he has been on Sirius. He would be a major piece of the puzzle on radioio.
2) Kidd Chris. He did a good show in Philly and would fit in well with the shenanigans on radioio.com.
3) Riley Martin. Why not?

Jorge Rodriguez would be good, he is Neil Rogers old producer. He is very much like Brent.

If he was still with us, I'd put Neil in the running. RIP.

Bubba has spoken highly of Andrew many times.
That is why I think it actually could happen with Andrew, once his Sirius contract is over. He is the ONLY reason that I still have a Sirius subscription still.

IO needs some kind of regular paranormal/conspiracy show...
Riley... well ok, just cause I like running tobaggans on him but... they need someone like George Norray or Art Bell IMO to give it some credibility
George Norray or Art Bell
credibility
:jj: I get what you're saying though.

Clayton Morris does a paranormal podcast show, but I just don't see him fitting in on radioio.com. Stranger things have happened, though.

a nikki sixx or a dee snider would be great, but they got jobs.
:jj: I get what you're saying though.
it's not them that don't have credibility - it's their wacky guests like Gary Spivy

Riley Martin - Bubba could easily double his Sirius salary.
Scotty Ferrall - Perfect fit
O&A - Hear me out. O&A have an audience. They are radio guys. Give them a show and let the O&A pests subscribe to RadioIo. Io would get thousands of more subscribers, which will give even more money for talent and show that Io is here to stay and serious about music and talk programming.
On the music side, they need to clean up some of the stations. They are TOO genre specific. There isn't much difference between Chill and Chill Lounge for example.

I agree, as long as their programming stays on a separate channel and Ron and Fez are part of the deal. I doubt they'd ever be into it though. Plus they have a lot of tech savvy friends and would probably just build their own network.

YouTube - Mr. Wonderful meets Gary Spivey
He has radio experience, so why not Mick Foley? What's a stiff punch between friends?

From what I've heard, Fez has been down in the dumps, Ron has been holding down the fort lately. Ron used to be in this town ages ago, the other Ron from The ron and ron show has his own show on a local sports station.

It's been a while since I listened, but it was like that back then too. It's a shame, Fez can be one of the funniest, most talented guys on the radio, but he has a lot of issues he's been struggling with.
And I'll add Henry Rollins to this ongoing list we have here.

I forgot to mention this earlier, but I think the niche music programming is one of radioIO's strengths. I don't think cutting what brought them to the dance would go over well. We saw how that went with Sirius XM post merger and how pissed off people were.

I would love to see Scott Ferrall and Phil Hendrie. I agree on the Bubba 3 channel. I think Bubba 2 should be a loop of the uncensored IO shows and Debriefing. I think Shannon Burke for afternoons and Drew for evenings . I even want to hear more Tuddle. I really hope it becomes a place where former Clear Channel/Sirius XM talent can go and be respected.
I think there should be a Talk only plan on IO, I can do without the music (and cost of royalties)
Also, I think basically anyone who can bring in a few thousand subscribers should get a show on a pay tier. Like for instance pay a base subscription price for IO Talk (8-10$) and add on shows/channels for between 1-2$ Someone like Riley Martin could easily get 3-5000 subscribers and make a pretty good living.

so kinda like pay per view radio?
or well... like getting hbo extra..
I like that.. then if you don't like a channels line up - you don't get that tier...
but then you risk say putting on a sports channel where people like ferrall - but may not like the other people on the station... could be a catch 22?
With Early Enlistment it would be problematic adding tiers like that if people who are paid up for three years were not given access to those channels.

From what Ive heard, there aren't many of us early enlisters, so it shouldn't be a big deal. I think O and A were on some kind of tier on XM, so it would be something like that. I think Bubba might have burned too many bridges with radio talent IE: O and A, Ron and Fez, Lex and Terry, Jason Ellis, Jay Thomas. But you never know.... Sirius seems to be fucking talent over worse than Clear Channel did.

Weren't estimates at 2000+ considering "almost $1 million" was made off the Early Enlistment promotion? I just think asking for more cash at this point is a bad idea, especially when some people regard the service as too expensive now.
Bubba and Lex and Terry kissed and made up much to Spaz's chagrin. And Brent is related to Fez and those shows have no problem with one another.

3100 or so early enlisters. I hoped for 20,000. I guess if they got kicked off of all testicle radio affiliates and went to IO full time, they might hit numbers like those. Hopefully Randy and Marc Chase are putting deals in place behind the scenes, both with talent and with automakers/vendors. I think the internet is the future and i really like how Bubba mixed Live Internet Radio broadcasts and podcasts/downloads. I think IO could lure talent in by letting them own it, and letting fans download it or listen live.
Well, getting 3000 or so people to blindly drop the $300 is impressive as far as I'm concerned. And yeah, letting talent have ownership in what they're doing is a great plan to lure people over.

it might take off...
bubba is a big fan of DIY... the studio's, the staff salaries...
it would fit in perfectly with his ideology I think.

That's what I like about this company. If you read the article about Mike Roe, the founder, he's like us. A music/radio fan who set up a shoutcast server to play his own music. Then it's grown into this. You have guys like Mike Metheny on the jazz channels that really take their programming seriously, when the trend, even on Sirius XM now, is to further dumb down the playlists.
You take that DIY ethic, apply it to talk talent as well, and implement those rumored services that are being offered, and you can have a service the hosts and listeners feel they truly have a stake in and create something vastly different to the bland corporate feel of a lot of radio companies.

This gig doesn't necessarily rule that out.

two jobs full time?
hmmmm..... only bubba can pull that off
Well, depends on what we're talking about. Afternoons on Bubba Two, or his current show being on weekly? Well, I guess the latter isn't "full time."
well... IMO I'd rather have Shannon on daily then drew...
I've like Shannon's show from the start - but Drew's frist couple shows were..... not so great IMO. Though I'm warming up to him - I don't want a fucking musical interlude every 15 minutes on my afternoon drive...
